Nate's November News

Nate has moved out of his high chair now, favouring his bumper seat, and a seat at the kitchen table with everyone else now. Great view of the telly from here! Probably better for his posture too, as makes him sit up nice and straight too :-). (Now it probably looks like all we feed him is junk food - promise that isn't the case! He just looks more enthusiastic than when he's eating his veges!)

We also had a recent trip out to see my Aunt and Uncles new digs - very flash. Nate took a real liking to Uncle Norm and second cousin Sophie, as you can see from the below....

With the weather warming up, we also managed an early dinner in Ponsonby. Nate wasn't so happy (even with the restaurant basically empty), as he isn't really a fan of new places or unknowns. But it was an attempt at normality for us....I think we might need to get some help on how best to help him through things like that. His anxiety can be quite a challenge :-(. But at least I got a shot of the two of us, while he was some what placated by his iPad and good ole chocolate ice cream....

We saw Nate's paediatrician recently for his six monthly check up, and have a number of follow ups to come as a result of that. Her view was that although the last MRI showed some white matter loss, that there wasn't a lot of point repeating it at this point. Mostly as there isn't really anything they can do with that information, I think? But if we observe any differences in him then they will repeat. It seems sensible though for now, given how traumatic the whole thing is for him, but it does worry me :-(.

We also have a follow up for orthotics as he rolls his feet in quite a bit, which is probably to do with his lower tone, but equally could be his mother's flat feet too! We're hopeful that wearing orthotics might stop a scoliosis diagnosis at some future point, although there really is no certainty of that. Of course having flat feet doesn't stop him charging around the house, playing with all his things....:-)

Why can't I ride both at once?!

Finally, the paediatrician has also given us a referral for some behavioural help, which we are definitely in need of. Nate has some sort of anxiety thing going on, which is likely some sort of sensory overwhelming condition we think? In public places he can sometimes get very distressed very quickly, and it's not your normal two year old toddler like stuff. It's no fun for anyone, and we're not exactly sure of how best to help him, so it will be great to see some experts at some point soon. Poor little Boo.

Later on in the month, we also had a follow up sleep study. We're hoping that maybe they will give us the all clear for Nate sleeping without his Airvo machine at night. He hasn't used it much over winter with his flurry of colds and flus, but he probably should have been. We're waiting for the results to come through now...fingers crossed!

We did have some lovely news this month - we applied and were accepted for a cool little loan car through a neat charity 'GoBabyGo' that supports kids with disabilities. It's awesome, and he loves it.....we just have to work on his steering ability now :-). We get to keep it for as long as he is using it - it's so great that there are organisations like this in this world, and really nice that Nate has been accepted for something. Too often we get told that while he is noticeably developmentally delayed and medically impacted, he doesn't qualify for much here in NZ. The old empty coffers thing again.

Robin and I also managed a night out on our own! Luxury! Granny and Grandaddy looked after our little man. We took the train out, to see Fleetwood Mac. Fun night, great sounds, and a real treat :-)

We've seen quite a bit of Granny and Grandaddy over the last month or so - Grandaddy has finally had his hip replacement done, so they have been Auckland based for both the procedure and recovery. It's been great for us all to have them so close, esp for Nate!

I thought I'd finish today's blog off with some recent shots of our little man at a different park to our normal ones - great excitement at the new discovery which is in walking distance to us too! I've also included some further shots of Nate and Daddy enjoying the swings - Nate thinks it's a HUGE joke to boot Daddy in the butt and make him jump!! He has quite the chortle of a laugh on him too, it's very contagious! Happy days!

Too. Funny.
Get ready to jump Daddy!

Nate continues his fascination with my cellphone....especially watching himself on video or checking out his photos. He also likes to snap a few himself...here are some of Nate's pre-bed time selfies......

Well centred on this one.....
.....and cheeky on this one!
And pure gorgeousness :-)
